Public art installations and workshops are powerful ways to reach a broad range of citizenry with important ocean sustainability topics.  Art transcends language, literacy, age, and background, and when done well, it can elicit emotional responses and critical thought.  
Our Theory-of-Change:
​We are an education organization, but we see our work as directly political:
  • Educated citizens make informed decisions at the ballot box for legislation and elected representatives who will do right by the environment.
  • Educated communities can have productive conversations about environmental challenges and solve issues internally.
  • ​Educated political leaders can negotiate responsible, sustainable solutions with corporations and other stakeholders- especially if they believe their constituents understand and care about the environmental issues at hand.
Art helps drives cultural decision-making, from fashion industry trends to consumer choices at the store; It is a pillar of our collective global culture, and Countercurrent utilizes its disproportionate influence to reach new audiences in meaningful ways to promote the awareness of ocean issues.
