Ethan Estess
Most of my works tell stories about environmental science topics, from marine plastic pollution to tuna conservation. My focus is on appealing to the basic emotions of the viewer such that they can understand the scientific concepts at play and internalize the gravity of humanity’s impact on the global ecosystem. I am inspired by the biodiversity of life on Earth, found objects, motion, and the interactions between the “human” and “natural” worlds. www.ethanestess.com/ |
Kyle Johnson (JuiceBox)
JuiceBox a surfboard shaper and sign painter based out of Santa Cruz, Ca. Originally from Los Angeles, he spent a great deal of time at the beach and on camping trips in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. His work focuses on the culture that comes out of days spent watching the tides turn and the waves come and go. Word play and visual effects of letters combined with found materials to find something that embodies the essence of the object, the words, or both. Kyle has a B.S. in Earth Science with a focus in Geology from U.C. San Diego. http://www.juiceboxsurfboards.com/ |
Lake Buckley
Lake grew up on a mountain in the Bay Area with lots of plants and colored pencils. After college she received sponsorship from Patagonia to do things like bike cross-country and learn about the US agricultural system from the perspective of female farmers. After working with the design teams at Levi’s, Nest, Patagonia and 1st Ave Machine, she headed to RISD for her MFA. Recently her short films have been featured by AIGA and the Sundance Film Festival. Lake brings a sense of wonder into her life through drawing and film; she likes creating a peculiar form of ordinary magic that moves between the mundane and dreams. She'll be busy teaching and living in the studio before graduating this June.

Lawrence La Bianca
I sculpt metal, ceramic, wood, and glass into iconic and at times enigmatic forms that explore humankind’s relationship with nature. My work is influenced by a childhood split between rural Maine and New York City—an experience that inspired a profound interest in the dichotomy between communities in which people work close to nature, and the alienation of an urban, technological society. My sculptures explore and illustrate the parallels and interactions between these two worlds. http://www.lawrencelabianca.com/ |

Sven Atema
Sven Atema currently lives in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. He graduated from U.C. Santa Cruz with a BFA, having done extensive study in Kenya and Ethiopia. His work is primarily done on wood panel using a wide array of pigments, binders, inks, gold/silver/aluminum leaf, liquid acrylics, in a multi-layered and fluid method developed over years of experimentation. The ocean is a pivotal point of reference in Atema’s paintings, drawings and sculptures. And the close scrutiny of nature and our relationship to it is a thread that connects nearly all of his work. He has developed over the years a host of characters and forms that help to convey these ideas/observations. They have become the building blocks of a unique visual language. http://svenatema.com/ |
